Research area and mission |
|
The research programme seeks to investigate the ongoing re-alignment between public, private and civil society actors in urban and regional development processes, with special emphasis on the role of meso-level institutions as the domain where local and global forces interact most strategically.
It consists of research in four thematic fields:
1.
Globalisation, local impacts and responses
2.
Innovation systems and learning
3.
Decentralization, governance and identity
4.
Sustainable urban development and livelihoods |
|
Within Working Programme 3, reflections by the management team on the work accomplished, and perspectives for future research led to a reformulation of the title of the program to Enterprise, Governance and Global-Local Interaction, and a reprogramming around four themes for the period 2000-2004.
Whereas before 1998, the main emphasis in the research programme was on analyzing the impact of structural adjustment and the factors conditioning the functioning of specific economic sectors at the local level (industrial restructuring), and the way accelerated urbanization processes influenced economic development locally, there has been a shift toward actor-oriented approaches and analysis of the interaction between actors and different scale levels in the various domains of economic and urban development. |
