The CERES research school has four major types of individual members:
- ° Senior fellows
- ° Affiliated members
- ° PhD candidates
- ° Junior fellows (post doc's)

PhD candidates
- registered as CERES PhD candidate at the central CERES office, with a (copy of) Training and Supervision Plan, including the supervisory arrangements
- accepted by the CERES directorate
- registration fee: € 1000 (special cases: reduced fee possible)
- free access to all CERES training activities, summer schools, and meetings of all CERES working programmes (up to one calendar year upon PhD graduation)
- CERES PhD certificate upon graduation (on demand)
- Registration of all publications and relevant activities in CERES annual reports and reviews (under a chosen CERES Working Programme)
Junior fellows (post doc's)
- PhD holders until five years upon PhD graduation, and not yet applied for, or accepted as senior fellows
- Accepted by CERES directorate, and a CERES Working Programme
- With a tutor assigned by the CERES directorate
- registration fee: for each registered fte research time: per calendar year: € 50 with a maximum of € 200
- free access to all CERES activities, summer schools, and meetings of all CERES working programmes
- Registration of all publications and relevant activities in CERES annual reports and reviews (under a chosen CERES Working Programme)
- Annual valuation of research productivity and quality (for postdocs: at 50% of their registered research time)
In addition CERES has honorary fellows, affiliated members who applied for a (re-) qualification trajectory, affiliated PhD candidates, and visiting scholars.
